In their first game of the 2002-03 campaign, the Golden Knights broke open a tight 3-2 contest after 40 minutes with five goals in the third period, including a three-goal spurt in a 47-second span. Senior defenseman Chris Bahen (Markham, ONT) started the Green and Gold onslaught in the final period scoring at 4:32. Sophomore Chris Blight (Cambridge, ONT) made it 5-2 at 5:09 and Schwan tallied his second goal of the game at 5:19 to give Clarkson a four-goal advantage. O'Flaherty and Jones added scores at 10:32 and 16;25 respectively to complete the rout.

Despite a dominating first-period effort, Clarkson held a slim 2-1 lead over Toronto. The Knights, who outshot the varsity Blues 26-5 over the opening 20 minutes, took a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 67 seconds apart. O'Flaherty finished off a passing combination from sophomores Jay Latulippe (Saratoga Springs, NY) and Jones with a shot from the bottom of the right circle while the Green and Gold enjoyed a two-man advantage at 6:36. At 7:43, sophomore Matt Syroczynski (Hamburg, NY) knocked in a rebound off classmates Mac Faulkner's (King City, ONT) shot from the top of the crease. Ian Malcom gave Toronto its first goal with a hard shot from the left boards on the Blues' second shot of the game at 10:28.

Toronto tied it up early in the second as Mike Nason capitalized on a Clarkson turnover in its own zone and wristed in a shot from the left circle at 6:12. Clarkson came right back to regain the lead as Schwan slipped in a shot from in front through the five-hole of Toronto freshman goaltender Tim Knight at 7:08.

The Knights outshot the Varsity Blues 65-19. Senior Mike Walsh (Downingtown, PA) started in the Clarkson goal and made four saves in the opening 20 minutes. Freshman Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) recorded the win with an eight-save second period effort. Junior Dan Weinreib (Amherst, NY) posted five stops in the third.
